Administrative / Biographical History
Paton was a lecturer and the first head of the Scottish School of Librarianship at the Scottish College of Commerce, 1946-1950. He received an honorary Master of Arts (MA) degree in 1972 and was visiting professor to the department of library studies at the University of Strathclyde, 1972-1980. He was the County Librarian for Lanarkshire until he retired in 1987.
