William Paton Ker's papers relate more to his personal life than his academic career, although a few of his notebooks contain lecture notes, and his diaries record both personal and work appointments. The material spans an extensive period, from Ker's childhood years through to the diaries he kept until his death. Aspects of his personal and working life are revealed in the letters he wrote to other people, especially his father, William and sister, Penelope (see MS Gen 1300/1/1 and MS Gen 1300/4/2). Ker was a keen walker and climber and his travels are well-documented in the letters, diaries and sketchbooks.
