Scope and Content

NOTEBOOKS AND PAPERS: Edward Jones, Nant Uchaf, Llaneugrad.

Edward Jones was at various times a C. M and an Independent. These notebooks contain "extempore" prayers, commentaries and notes on Biblical passages and draft of speeches, perhaps for use in Sunday School or Seiat. At this time he was a member of Soar Independent Chapel (Bryn-Teg), and there are accounts concerned with the building of the cemetery wall, towards the end of the bound note book.

Family tradition suggests that, although probably more intelligent and better educated than his brother, he was a difficult man to get on with. He never married. He fancied his ability in legal matters, and is thought to have drawn up some family wills.

He was the cause of a quarrel in Capel Soar which ended in bloodshed, and the issue was taken to court, his faction being the winners. His enemies watched him carefully and eventually secured his appearance in court at Menai Bridge, for keeping a dog without a licences. The magistrate said "Did you keep a dog without a licence?".

E. J. "No, Sir!".

But when pressed, admitted that it was a bitch!
