These were originally in numbered box files, although the numbers do not appear to have been allocated chronologically. There is a directory to the box files (located in the first box of the series) arranged alphabetically by the name of the client. However, discrepancies exist between the numbers in this directories and those on the box files as listed.
It should be noted that some files had lost their numbers; a proportion of these numbers could be worked out using the directory. In these instances the list of file contents is in the main series, in numerical sequence, but the number has been cited in square brackets. Files whose number could not be worked out are in a separate series at the end, and have artificial numbers (B2/C3/[312]-[321]). These few have been arranged chronologically.
There are several gaps in the numerical order, presumably because some files do not survive, or numbers were never allocated in the first place.
As for the catalogue descriptions of the files, the name given after each reference is that of the individual customer of Daniel Young. Much of the content of these files is the result of Daniel Young obtaining details of products and ordering from other firms on behalf of their customer.
Please note these files were recatalogued in strict numerical order in July 2011. The original file references have been kept in the alt ref no field.
