Scope and Content

The collection consists of a poster and a file containing correspondence relating to the arrangements at Leicester Polytechnic for the 6th Europa Cantata which was held in Leicester.

Administrative / Biographical History

The European Choral Association - Europa Cantat is a non-profit association which organises festivals of choral singing, bringing together choral groups from across Europe.

The first board was elected in Strasbourg on the 10th December 1955 and the first Europa Cantat was held in Passau, Germany in 1961 and involved 69 groups from 12 countries. The 6th Cantat was held in Leicester between the 30th July and the 8th August, 1976, with the main concerts being held at De Montfort Hall.
