Administrative / Biographical History
John Mitchell was born around 1842 in Fenwick, Ayrshire. His father, James, was a doctor. He begain his studies at the University in 1858 and graduated with an MD CM in 1864. He then went on to practice medicine at New Mills, Derbyshire, Barnard Castle, County Durham and Silloth, Cumberland. He became a Fellow of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1878. He was also a member of the British Medical Association.
