Scope and Content

Personal papers of the Pesci family, originally from Bardi, Italy who went on the open a fish and chip shop in Barking in 1939, including the marriage certificate of Gioacchino Pesci and his wife, Giuliana (nee Antoniazzi), as well as documents, primarily concerning their emigration to the United Kingdom, such as an oath of allegiance, vaccination notices, certificates of registration, certificates of naturalisation and passports (1920-1973), together with the baptism certificate (23 January 1926), soldier’s service and release books (1944-1947) of their son, Celestino (known as Charles). Also includes portrait photographs of a young Gioacchino Pesci (circa. 1920) and other members of the family (circa. 1930-1970), as well as the wedding photographs of two couples (circa. 1930 and 1960). It should be noted that the bride in the later wedding photographs bears a strong resemblance to Giuliana Pesci, wife of Gioacchino, and is therefore possibly their daughter(?). Accompanied by further photographs, showing a holiday on board a cruise ship, during which the men of the family participated in a ‘knobbly knee’ competition (circa, 1960).
