Scope and Content

Small, leather hardbound volume containing a manuscript record of inquisitions taken by Robert Spofforth the younger as the Coroner of the Liberty of Howden and Howdenshire. The first pages contain a transcription of the oath taken by the Coroner upon assuming office. Note that an inquest involved an investigation by jurers appointed by the Coronor, viewing of the body by the Coronor, and the presentation of findings and opinions of both leading to a verdict on cause of death.
