Scope and Content

Recites the circumstances of damage to his farm that was incurred in 1861 by the encampment of the Third Regiment of New Jersey Volunteers under Col. Napton and again in 1865 by General Sheridan's Union Cavalry. As a consequence WH was ruined and died the following year. His widow subsequently re-married and what remained of her legacy is said to have been squandered by her new husband. She is also now deceased. The claim is for $16,676 for which the United States is liable.
