Scope and Content

Deeds, 1609-1873, mostly relating to lands in Carmarthenshire, including the Trimsaran estate; records of the Commissioners of the Kidwelly and Llanelli Canal and Tramroad Act, 1813-1834; and deeds and records of the Llanelli Canal and Tramroad Company, 1834-1839. The fonds does not contain any records relating to the Carmarthenshire Antiquarian Society.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Carmarthenshire Antiquarian Society was formed in 1905 in order to promote the study of the history, archaeology, antiquities and folklore of Carmarthenshire in particular and West Wales in general. It also strives to encourage the preservation of local records, antiquities and objects of historical and archaeological interest. The Carmarthenshire Antiquary, the Transactions of the Society, is published annually. The Carmarthenshire Antiquarian Society has in the past been active in acquiring original documents.
