Administrative / Biographical History

Sewell became a high-profile media figure as a result of his popularity as a journalist, and this led to him making appearances on radio from the 1980s onwards. He contributed to many arts programmes for the BBC, mainly on BBC Radio 3 and 4.

His interest in the arts also extended to co-writing a play about the English painter and engraver, William Hogarth (1697-1764). He worked on this project with the British actors Timothy Ackroyd and Peter O'Toole in 2004-2006. The play was titled Hogarth: The Compassionate Satirist.
