Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In 1937 Principal Maurice Jones invited a number of old students to return to St. David's College, with the aim of forming a new society. A letter was circulated by this group, inviting all known former students to become members of the Lampeter Society. A reunion meeting was held in June 1938 at Lampeter, which hundreds of members attended.
September 1938 saw the issue of the first Lampeter Society Bulletin. Further meetings were held, along with a second reunion in June 1939. Yet the outbreak of war that September meant that activities were suspended.
Despite the intervention of the Second World War, the Lampeter Society survived, and met again at Carmarthen in 1948. A bulletin was sent out declaring the resumption of activities. A reunion was again held in June, with reunions being held every June since then, and bulletins appearing annually or biannually.
Today, the Lampeter Society continues to organise reunions, and publish the Society newsletter, The Lampeter Link.
