Scope and Content

The James Edward Jones Scholarship Fund was established in 1913 by James Edward Jones (1844-1922) Cloth Merchant and Justice of the Peace of Rochdale, Lancashire, in memory of his late father Ellis Jones, Linen and Wollen Draper, originally of Wernddu, Gwyddelwern, and later Castlemere, Castleton, Rochdale.

The aim of the charity was to award modest grants to boys and girls of the parish to help contribute towards their education costs.

The fund was administered by a body of trustees which included members of the Local Education Authority, School Managers of Bala County School District, Gwyddelwern Parish Council, and Co-opted members.

The scholarship fund ceased to exist in 2016.

Records include minutes, financial records, regulations, correspondence, and newspaper article.
