Georges Sykes papers comprising of printed plan marked to show allotments.

Administrative / Biographical History

Cardiff County Borough Council adopted the Allotments Act 1887 on its formation in 1889 and placed the function under the Parks, Open Spaces and Allotments Committee, later the Parks and Open Spaces Committee. Land for allotments was found on Wedal farm, and at Sloper Road and Leckwith Road during the 1890s and further land was acquired after about 1905. The map was used by George Sykes for entomological research
