Administrative / Biographical History

Stanley Llewelyn Stennett was a comedian, actor and musician. He was born in Rhiwceiliog, near Heol-y-Cyw, Bridgend, on 30 July 1925. During the Second World War he served in the Army and worked as an entertainer. From the late 1940s he worked on stage, radio, TV and film. His TV roles included Sid Hooper in Crossroads and he also had roles in Coronation Street and Casualty. He appeared in numerous stage productions over his long career, appearing alongside many of Britains's greatest variety acts as well as international artistes. He was a talented musician and played trumpet and guitar in his act. In the early 1960s he joined the Black and White Minstrel Show, appearing as the principal comic for seven years. He also starred in pantomime each year, appearing in the New Theatre, Cardiff, on tour and in later years in Porthcawl. He also ran theatres, cinemas and arts centres in Tewkesbury, Hereford, Caerphilly and Porthcawl. He lived in Cardiff for most of his life, was married to Betty (they had married in Cardiff on 29 March 1948) and had two sons. He was a keen pilot, golfer and at one time was a director of Cardiff City Football Club. He died on 26 November 2013.
