Administrative / Biographical History
William Parry-Jones was born in 1897, and was educated at Llangefni Grammar School in Anglesey, Caius College, Cambridge and the London Hospital Medical School. Registrar in psychiatry at the North Wales Hospital for Mental and Nervous Disorders in Denbigh, 1961-1965. Senior Registrar at Littlemore Hospital, Oxford then at Warneford Hospital, Oxford. Clinical lecturer in psychiatry at Oxford University, 1969-1987. Consultant in charge of the Highfield Adolescent Unit, Oxford, 1972-1987. Professor of child and adolescent psychiatry in Glasgow University from 1987-1997. He came to prominence in the aftermath of the Lockerbie disaster and later applied his expertise in post traumatic stress disorder for the benefit of young people in the Balkans. He was also a pioneering historian of psychiatry and active in marriage guidance counselling.
