Stanley Sailor's Hospital was founded in 1871 by public subscription, sited at Salt Island, just off Holyhead, Anglesey. The hospital's major patrons were the Owen Stanley family of Plas Penrhos, Holyhead. It was initially intended to provide for sailors but it developed into a more general local hospital. It was taken over by the National Health Service in 1948 and closed in 1987.
