Scope and Content

A collection of deeds and documents relating to numerous manors in Lincolnshire, formerly part of the archives of the Peacock family, lords of the manor of Bottesford, near Scunthorpe. The manors of Ashby, Bottesford, Messingham, Scotter and Yaddlethorpe are particularly well represented. For Scotter there is a fine series of bailiffs' accounts from 1327 to 1544 (RYCH/3191-3210). There are also smaller numbers of items relating to Yorkshire (West and East Ridings), Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire, and single items relating to Devon, Gloucestershire and London.

Acquisition Information

Rylands accession no. R54606. Purchased by the John Rylands Library from Julian Peacock, esq, in May 1922. Mr Peacock, who died in 1945, served for over forty years as a member of staff at the Library.
