    • 1 vol. (192 ff.) Modern pencil foliation. Ff.1-2, 24-29, 33-121 are blank. The signature of Heneage Dering is on the inside front cover. The text is written mainly by Dean Dering, with additions by Dean Waddilove. Bound in rough calf, with some blind tooling. "Statutes and charters" is written in ink on the upper front cover. The following notes are inserted: (1) "Number of Papists in Ripon Parish, 1780"; (2) a letter from Thomas Burwell to "Mr Gilbert" on the burial of Papists, Aug.16.63

Scope and Content

Contains: (1) f.3: Extract from a manuscript account of the church of Durham, by Dr Thomas Sharp (pasted in); (2) f.4: Descriptions of the bells of Ripon and Durham on recto, Table of deans and prebendaries in the Chapter House, Ripon (up to 1805) on verso; (3) f.5: Sketch with dimensions of the great spire of Ripon Minster; (4) ff.6-23: Extracta quaedam ex Libris Capitularibus (dated 1635 to 1712), partly in Latin and partly in English; (5) ff.30-32: Copy of agreement between the Dean and Chapter, and the inhabitants of Hutton Conyers, 1753; (6) ff.122-4: Statutes and ordinances, 1814, and orders relating to Ripon Grammar School; (7) ff.125-9: Agreement between John, bishop of London and the Dean and Chapter, relating to the Chapel and School of Cleasby, 1723; (8) ff.130-2: Bishop of London's composition for small tythes of Hewick, and gift of an afternoon sermon, 1722; (9) ff.133-8: Foundation charter of Ripon Grammar School, 1555 (in Latin); (10) ff.138v-40: List of rents belonging to Jepson's Hospital, and copy of will of Zacharias Jepson, 1672; (11) ff.141-73: Copies of the charters of James I, 1604 and 1607, etc. (mostly in Latin); (12) ff.174-7: Chappell of Paytley Bridge; (13) ff.178-81: Decree ordering Dean and Chapter to appoint their own Receiver, 18 Feb. 11o.Jac.1; (14) ff.182-5: Chapel of Bishop Thornton, 14.Chas.2; (15) ff.185-7: Chapels in the parish of Ripon (additions up to 1782, by Dean Waddilove); (16) ff.187-8: Names of Papists in the parish of Ripon, returned 1735; (17) ff.189r, 190: Notes on Aldfield Chapel, by R.D.
