Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Founded in April 1971 as Jones Mason Partners, the partnership provided ground control and field verification for aerial surveys throughout the UK. In 1975 Kevan and Annette Mason registered Mason Land Surveys Limited to supply support to aerial survey companies. As the volume of the aerial survey work declined during the late seventies, Mason diversified its activities within the construction industry, providing civil engineering setting-out, hydrographic survey and dimensional control services.
Mason evolved once more during the late eighties and early nineties applying new technology and diversifying into the fields of Photogrammetry, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Ordnance Survey mapping retail, Reprographics Bureau and in-house computer programming. The company also became engaged in reselling software from Bentley and Intergraph, of which it was a major user. At this point the company was still headquartered in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland with a second major office at Faygate, near Horsham, West Sussex. Further offices were added in the late nineties including the opening of an Edinburgh office for mapping retail purposes as well as a major project office at BAA's Heathrow Airport as Land Survey Framework Partner.
Additional services continued to be added to the already expansive portfolio which now includes Measured Building Surveys, Laser Scanning Surveys and the formation of a subsidiary company and strategic partnerships with key value adding service providers.
Mason remains an independent family owned and managed business, headquartered out of Dunfermline, Scotland. The company operates under trading names including as Mason Digital Mapping, Mason, Mason SubSurface, Mason Surveys, Masonmap and MasonRepro.
