Administrative / Biographical History

Christian Smith Gibson was born in Baldernock, Stirlingshire, on 05 June 1898  . Her father John Gibson had been a teacher, but died prior to her attending university. Christian attended the University of Glasgow as a private student from 1916-1917  and as a regular student from 1917-1920  , taking classes in Conveyancing in her first year; Civil Law and Forensic Medicine in her second; Scots Law and Private Law in her third, and Conveyancing and Public International Law in her fourth and final year. She came third in her Conveyancing examination in 1917, and was awarded a second class certificate in Civil Law in 1918, the Robert Ross Prize in Scots Law in 1919 and an honours certificate in Conveyancing in 1920. Christain graduated with a BL in April 1920  and subsequently worked as a law clerk until she married James Davidson Webster in October 1925  . She died in Seamill, Ayrshire, on 18 October 1980  .
