re the proposed transfer of the mental health hospital from Oakwood Park, Conwy, to Bryn y Neuadd, Llanfairfechan. By the early 1960s it had been decided that Oakwood Park was not, after all, suitable for full development as a mental defective colony due, among other reasons, to the steep gradient of much of the site and its N. and N.E. facing aspect being unsuitable for the construction of huts for the patients. Simultaneously, the Welsh Hospital Board became aware that the governors of St. Andrews Hospital, Northampton were prepared to sell the Bryn y Neuadd site, which had been used as a holiday annexe to the private hospital, for development as a hospital for the sub-normal. It was felt that this much flatter site would be preferable and the decision was taken to acquire it whilst relinquishing the Oakwood Park Hospital. Includes correspondence; minutes of meetings; schedule of premises; revenue and outgoings re Bryn y Neuadd; reports of surveys; comparative estimates of costs at Oakwood and Bryn y Neuad; reports on staffing; and applications to the Treasury for authority to purchase the premises.
