Scope and Content

This document was given to the archives on permanent loan in 1981, and assigned the Accession number 1902.

To judge from this document, the Friendly Society was founded in 1761 to provide money for the care of sick members and the burial of dead ones. At each meeting they attended members paid a regular subscription into a fund for this. Meetings were to be held at the Black Horse Inn at Standlake. The document is undated, but there since is a reference to members joining the society after 2 June 1795 having to be under 41 years old, it is possible that the document dates from around then.

Catalogued by Robin Darwall-Smith in September 1993.
