Letter: Elizabeth Butterfield to Amanda Sweet, archivist about her childhood memories of holidays at Llanddwyn Island. She comments on the BBC TV reality series about families staying at the pilots cottages. She talks about the pilots stationed on the island who also tended the lighthouse and the situation during the war. They later rented a bungalow little more than a shack but 7 crammed in on camp beds. Mentions Oliver Cook a child of another family who stayed too, a contemporary of her elder brother who was born in 1925. Discusses Tom Jones, the son of Elizabeth Jones the custodian. He was in the Merchant Navy as a bosun but having been torpedoed came back to Llanddwyn as a coastguard and tended the lighthouse which was kept dark during the war. He also had lobster pots and her father helped steady the row boat. Tom sold the lobsters to Caernarvon and Bangor Hotels. They went mackerel fishing and sold some to a man in shorts who turned out to be the Bishop of Winchester.
