Administrative / Biographical History
The Greenock Ropeworks Ltd, Whinhill, Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland, was founded in the early 20th century and was acquired by the Gourock Ropeworks Co Ltd, Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, in 1936 and operated as a subsidiary of the Gourock company. The Greenock Ropeworks Ltd produced cotton fishing nets and manila trawl nets and by 1954 was a specialist unit for working in soft hemp. The company was dissolved in 1999 .
