The correspondence comprises of letters to Emily Shackleton (nee Dorman) from before their marriage to the time of Sir Ernest's death during the Shackleton-Rowett Antarctic Expedition, 1921-1922 and additional correspondence with the Shackleton and Dorman families

There is also a large amount of correspondence to Ernest's son Edward regarding his father
