WOODLANDS INFANTS SCHOOL

Comprising: managers' and visitors' book 1909-1941; ground plan of developments at the school 1970

Originating as the infants' department of Woodlands Temporary Provided School no later than the start of 1909, Woodlands Infants' School was opened by the West Riding County Council Education Department in newly constructed premises on The Crescent in Woodlands in 1911, along with the adjacent Woodlands Junior Mixed (later Middle) School. Woodlands Infants' School retained its separate identity until 2003, when it merged with its neighbour to form a unified Woodlands Primary School.

Although its administrative history has much in common with that of the adjoining Middle School [and some additional details can be found in the introduction to the catalogue of the Middle School's records, for which see SR163 above], the Infants' School, in comparison with its neighbour, was more or less untouched by reorganization during the schools' shared ninety-two year existence. It underwent a change of name in 1969, when it became Woodlands First School, and it retained this new name after responsibility for education had passed to Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council in 1974 and until the school ceased to be a separate entity in 2003.
