Scope and Content

In 1927 W.G. Constable published a monograph (his first) on John Flaxman, 1755-1826. The book had its origin in a lecture delivered at University College, London, by Constable on the anniversary of Flaxman's death. It was not intended to be comprehensive but rather, as Constable explained in the introduction to the publication merely 'an expansion of that lecture'. For this reason, perhaps, the files deposited at the Centre are scant. They concern only the process of obtaining images for reproduction and also additional information about Flaxman collected post-publication. They do not include any records concerning research for the book.
