Rhondda Borough Council (Glamorgan) was formed from Rhondda Urban District Council in 1955. The Borough Council served the geographical area covered by the Ystradyfodwg civil parish, and parts of Llanwonno, otherwise Llanwynno, and Llantrisant parishes. Some health functions were delegated to Rhondda Borough Council by Glamorgan County Council in 1962, covering environmental health services; personal health services and hospitals. Under local government re-organisation in 1974, Rhondda Borough Council became a District Council, Rhondda (District) Borough Council, one of six districts operating under the new county of Mid-Glamorgan.
