Includes one newspaper cutting from an unidentified newspaper relating to the death of Mr J S Gans, Chairman and Managing Director of Gansolite (c.August 1953), and one article from the Yorkshire Evening Press showcasing the work of one family of employees of Gansolite (22 March 1988).

Administrative / Biographical History

Mr Jeffrey was assistant company secretary of Gansolite Ltd, Button Manufacturers, Haxby Road. Mr Jeffery commenced employement on 11 April 1949 and was still with the company when it changed hands in the 1970s . Mr Jeffery's died in January 2012. Gansolite was founded by Mr J S Gans in 1930. Mr Gans' obituary dated August 1953 includes the following company information: 'Mr Gans was a Dutchman who had founded a button-making concern in Holland. In 1930 Mr Gans transfered his plant, equipment and stock to York and the compnay was registered with the co-operation of Rowntree and Co. At this time Rowntree were assisting the introduction of new industry into York to absorb unemployment. Mrs Gans was a director of the company. Gansolite currently employs 200 people'. An included cutting from the Yorkshire Evening Press March 22 1988 entitled 'Family undoes Buttons tie' refers to the company as 'British Buttons', Haxby Road.
