The papers in this archive refer to a project investigating problems arising in West South Wales - specifically on measures to deal with the clearance and reclamation of derelict land and modernising the area.
The collection contains files of papers, correspondence, notes and Welsh Office reports dealing with the reclamation of derelict land in Wales together with reports on derelict land in the Midlands, Scotland, Shropshire, Cornwall, Lancashire, Staffordshire and Durham.
Other papers include: Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and Parliamentary Papers; publications on the subject of regional studies, local history, industrial archaeology and urban redevelopment; press cuttings, two editions of Picture Post (1 and 8 January 1944) containing articles on the Swansea Valley by Tom Hopkinson, David Grenfell and others. Files of papers, proofs, correspondence and typescripts for the final report of the Lower Swansea Valley Project and its publication by Longmans.
