Scope and Content

The school was established on land acquired from St John's College in 1853 when the perpetual curate and churchwarden of the parish were appointed as trustees. It benefited from payments made out of Bishop Barrington's Trust under Mongewell Charity Scheme. Please see CC4/122 for other records of this school.

The earliest records of the school's activities are to be found in a log book dating from 1865. Inspector's reports show that in 1894 the average attendance was 37 juniors and 50 infants. This number of pupils remained constant up to at least 1924. The school is sometimes referred to as Ipsden Stoke Row Church of England School.

The records catalogued here were deposited in October 1982 as Acc 2068, December 1982 as Acc 2082, part of Acc 3139 in September 1990 and Acc 3400 in January 1992. They include title deeds, log books, minute books, cash books, letters, plans and school returns and reports.

Catalogued by Mark Priddey in December 1993 with additions by Alison Smith in November 2015 and November 2019.
