Scope and Content

Papers of Professor William Blair-Bell relating to his lead treatment for cancer, including correspondence from cancer patients and contemporaries overseas interested in the treatment, discussion of cases, applications for treatment, and of the problems of maintaining stability in the lead preparation and in obtaining supplies, together with correspondence with Sir Charlton Briscoe following Briscoe's visit to Liverpool to view Blair-Bell's treatment of cancer by colloidal lead, and notes by Blair-Bell on the controversy surrounding the treatment and the cases which had not benefited by the treatment.

This subfonds was created in September 2012 during recataloguing of the papers in order to facilitate access to the collection. Original references are captured at file level, and the papers arranged chronologically.

Related Material

The papers need to be studied in conjunction with the papers at reference S10 which were deposited on loan in the College by the Datnow family trustees in 1988. It is highly likely that the papers in S1 were separated from the papers in S10 as a result of a theft.
