Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Although from the association's foundation in 1928 many interests had interests in scientific research, it was only until the 1940's research activities were integrated with the college activities. This gradually became formalised through the use of committees and working groups to engage members, and results were often published as reports or guidelines.
In 1986, the British Paediatric Surveillance unit (BPSU) was founded through funds by the British Paediatric Association, the Institute of Child Health and the Public Health Laboratory Service in order to monitor and facilitate research into rare diseases and conditions.
In 1993, a research unit was established to integrate the research, audit and surveillance activities of the organisation, and as of 2013 these activities continue in the College today. The BPSU has continued to exist as a separate tripartite organisation.
