Scope and Content

Wrexham Association Football Club was founded in September 1872, playing its home matches at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham, Denbighshire. The club joined the English Third Division (North) in 1921, and became a founder member of the new Third Division in 1958. They were relegated to Division Four in 1960, promoted in 1962, and relegated again in 1964. They stayed in the Fourth Division until 1970, when they won promotion again. Their stay in the Third Division culminated in promotion to the Second Division as Champions in the 1977-8 season. Throughout this period, Wales regularly played International football matches at the Racecourse. The Club is currently (2004) in Coca-Cola Football League One.
