Martin Waddell Collection

Collection of drafts and pre-publication material for picture books and educational books written by Martin Waddell, including those published under the name Catherine Sefton. The collection also includes a series of notebooks and appointment diaries kept by Martin Waddell and his wife, Rosaleen, and a series of printed books for children written by Martin Waddell. This collection does not contain any draft material relating to longer story books or novels, whether written for children or for adults, by Martin Waddell.

Created by Martin Waddell during the course of his career as a writer.

The collection is arranged into four series as follows:

MW/01 Notebooks and appointment diaries

MW/02 Picture books

MW/03 Educational books

MW/04 Printed books

This arrangement reflects the original order of material at the time of deposit. Further information on the arrangement of files within each series can be found at series level in the catalogue.

Accessible to all researchers, by appointment only.

The collection has been appraised, and all duplicate material removed. In addition, in cases where numerous draft versions of a text were found, often with only very minor alterations between different versions, a sample representative of the variation within the drafts has been retained and the rest have been removed.
