Most of the volumes are closed to public access until conservation has been carried out, due to being fragile and unfit for production. The volumes have been digitised and images are available for consultation
The series comprises notebooks completed mostly in G.F. Wilson's hand, recording seeds sown at Wisley. According to articles published in the garden press, Wilson had a trial or nursery ground on a sloped hillside at Oakwood, where plants were raised from seed. Scores of beds were formed of narrow strips sheltered by fences of dried gorse, each variety separated by rows of stones. The system of bed numbers suggests these volumes relate to this part of the garden
