Scope and Content

Papers relating to statistical surveys undertaken by Calvinistic Methodist churches in Wales.

Administrative / Biographical History

In 1996, the Mission Board of the Presbyterian Church of Wales commissioned a survey into the Church's human and material resources, to be undertaken by the Open University in Wales. In order to test the methodology of this social survey, a pilot project was run in twenty-two churches in north Wales in 1996, in which the secretary of each church was asked to complete a bilingual questionnaire. The main survey was conducted in 1997, involving a twenty per cent sample of all the denomination's churches which were open in that year, and analysis of the results was completed and published in 1999.
In addition to this, from 1986 to 1997 the Church in northern Ceredigion collected annual statistics of its ministers, membership and financial resources.

Arrangement

Arranged at NLW into two groups: social survey; and surveys in North Ceredigion.
