Caledonian Medical Society

Minutes and transcripts of papers, 1878-1891.

The Caledonian Medical Society was founded in Edinburgh in 1878, initially for medical students with Highland connections. Its stated aims were that the Society should “promote the professional knowledge of its members by the consideration and discussion of medical and surgical subjects.” Furthermore, it aimed to promote the study of Celtic medicine, both traditional and contemporary. The Society was reconvened and its rules revised in 1881. Meetings were held alternately in Scotland and England.
