Scope and Content

Diaries of Joseph Jenkins, 1839-1870, and his daughter Anne Jenkins, 1886-1947, together with miscellaneous notebooks and papers of members of the Trecefel family, 1859-1947.

Administrative / Biographical History

Joseph Jenkins moved to Trecefel, Tregaron, a 180 acre farm, in 1848, as a tenant farmer with his wife and first child. The Reverend Latimer Jones, Vicar of St Peter's Church, Carmarthen, was his landlord. Over the years Joseph Jenkins invested a substantial amount of money in improving Trecefel and was 'regarded as the most successful farm in the county' in the first decade.
