Scope and Content

An extensive collection of lecture notes used by Vaughan Owen to teach local history classes organized by the WEA at the High School, Llanidloes, from 1969 to 1978. The classes were known as the 'History of Arwystli'. The lecture notes are divided into bundles: the notes dealing with the early and medieval periods are divided by period e.g. 'Roman', 'Dark Ages', 'Early Medieval', 'Norman'; those dealing with the modern period are divided by topic e.g. 'Parliamentary', 'lead mines', 'banks', 'Non-Conformity', 'education'. A series of twelve pocket notebooks kept by Vaughan Owen, each labelled 'Arwystli note book'. They contain copious notes on all aspects of local history. Also included is a further volume containing a broad index to the notebooks.
