Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
This is an artificial grouping of reprographic copies of manuscripts by or relating to D.H. Lawrence. They have been supplied to Nottingham University from originals held in other institutions, on the occasion of exhibitions at Nottingham or for other purposes.
Although the earliest material in this group was acquired in the 1950s, it was not defined as a separate group until 1993, when the entire Lawrence Collection catalogue was reviewed and restructured. Until that time copies of items were interfiled with originals. The creation of a new group provided an opportunity to rationalise the holdings. The revision involved a change in reference numbers; a conversion guide is available for researchers who encounter redundant references in citations.
Arrangement
The group is divided into series, each of which contains material from a particular source. Within the series, material is listed by correspondent or by date.
