The Royal Foresters was a friendly society originating in Yorkshire, c. 1813; the Ancient Order of Foresters was a breakaway group, formed in 1834. The Foresters is a Friendly Society made up of affiliated branches, one of which was set up in the Vale of Clwyd, Denbighshire, by 1865. The Ancient Order of Foresters provided mutual financial support, including insurance and savings support for its members.
