The church of St Mary at Huggate dates to the twelfth century. It was given to St Mary’s Abbey, York, c.1150 and the abbey held the patronage until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the sixteenth century when it passed to the Crown. The church was restored in 1864 and a new rectory house was built in 1936.
Today the parish of Huggate is part of the combined benefice of Pocklington Wold.

This arrangement was introduced in 2020. Records are arranged within the following alphabetical series but retain their original archival reference at file/item level:

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws. 24 hours' notice is required to access photographic material.

The archive was deposited at the Borthwick Institute 1966. Further additions were made to the archive in 1970, 1980, 1982 and 1983.
