Scope and Content

The Alfred Grammar School has foundations back to 1422 and 1509 but was refounded in 1851. In 1944 the school was renamed Wantage Grammar School and first accepted female pupils in 1975. In 1984 it merged with Segsbury Secondary School (please see S387/6 for records of this school) and Icknield School to form Wantage School. The school was renamed King Alfred's School in 1987.

The records were deposited as part of Acc 3139 in September 1990. Catalogued by Alison Smith in June 2016.
