Chief Superintendent David Emlyn Evans, British Empire Medal, served in the Glamorgan Constabulary from 1924 to 1963. He was born in Goodwick, Pembrokeshire on 4 April 1905 and was educated at Fishguard County School. He joined the Glamorgan Constabulary when he was 18 and was posted to Bridgend following his training in Cardiff. He was later posted to Porthcawl. In 1934 he became a sergeant and was posted back to Bridgend.In 1937 he was transferred to Police Headquarters in Cardiff where he was in charge of the Air Raid Precautions department and was promoted to Inspector in 1938. Due to his ARP work he was awarded the British Empire Medal. During the 1940s he and his family lived in a flat at the Glamorgan Constabulary Headquarters at Dyffryn, St. Nicholas until 1948 when he was transferred to Pontypridd in the rank of Chief Inspector. This was the first time that the Home Office had authorised a Chief Inspector rank in Glamorgan. In 1950 he was promoted to Superintendent and took charge of the Gowerton Division. He remained in charge there for over a decade. His last posting was to take charge of the Pontypridd B Division as Chief Superintendent. He remained there until his retirement in 1963.
