Scope and Content

Photos of West Linton, Whipman festival. West Linton Whipman festival, takes place during a week in June each year . It is one of the many such festivals in the Scottish Borders based on the assumed historical event of local horsemen patrolling the boundary (or march) of their community. Modern festivals began after World War ! and involve the election of a local young man, the Whipman, and his lass, to represent the town or village for the year. The activities during the week include sports days, fancy dress, a fun fair, as well as a parade and the ride-out when visitors from other festivals are also invited.
