Travel Journals

Holograph accounts, with numerous historical, topographical and antiquarian descriptions interspersed, of journeys and tours made by Dorothy Richardson in various parts of England in the company of members of her family, between 1761 and 1802. As follows:

• Vol. 2 (Eng MS 1123), 1770. Oxford and Bath. 410 pp.;
• Vol. 3 (Eng MS 1124), 1775 and 1785. London. 346 pp.;
• Vol. 4 (Eng MS 1125), 1779. Yorkshire (North Riding) and Lancashire. 289 pp.;
• Vol. 5 (Eng MS 1126), 1801-2. Yorkshire (East Riding). 322 pp. (of which 271-321 are blank).

Each volume is signed on a front fly-leaf: Doro : Richardson, and underneath, in each case, in a 19th-century hand, is the signature Eleanor Roundell. Dorothy Richardson's sister Mary married the Reverend William Roundell, who succeeded his father-in-law as Rector of Thornton in Craven.
