Scope and Content

The Medical Research Council was established in 1919 and is a public body that makes decisions independently from central government and funds scientific and medical research projects across the country. Wilkinson maintained close links with the MRC throughout his career and received funds from them to undertake his research. At times the MRC would also make requests to Wilkinson that he trial certain drugs etc. This run of correspondence files and annual reports that spans the majority of Wilkinson's research career gives a good insight into some of the work being undertaken by Wilkinson and his team in Manchester placed in a national context as well as highlighting some of the difficulties they faced.
