Mead's memoir describes his time oat the general headquarters staff of the Chindits (3rd Indian Infantry Division) during the planning and execution of Operation Thursday in 1944. It covers the period from when Mead joined HQ staff in the second half of 1943 to the end of the second Chindit campaign in August 1944. The memoir provides an unprecedented account of the second Chindit campaign ("Operation Thursday") as seen from the perspective of staff officers and planners. The memoir was probably written in around 1945. A note by mead (MOW/2) indicates that he did not intend the memoir for publication, and it appears that only a small number of copies were produced.
